Evan Robarts
Run of the Mill
March 3 – April 5, 2015
OPENING: Tuesday, March 3rd from 6-9PM

The Hole is proud to announce a full-gallery solo exhibition by Evan Robarts. While Robarts has exhibited widely in group shows over the past few years, this will be his first major solo exhibition. The show will highlight three bodies of work by the material-driven conceptual artist, including scaffolding pieces, “line drawings” and “mop” paintings.

The “mop” paintings are made as you would guess, by the artist “swabbing the deck” of the linoleum-covered panel with a mop on the floor, leaving his boot prints as he backs up to complete the job. The plaster is dragged around the black surface leaving both mundane and dynamic areas of white, a record of the task and its motions.

The 9th Edition of SALON ZÜRCHER, NY seeks to represent an emerging art world inside and outside of New York City. The salon will function as an accessible yet impressive, small but representative art fair, this year showcasing seven international galleries including two galleries from Beijing, China. The show offers visitors an intimate alternative to the large-scale, superstore style fairs during Armory week in New York.

The gallery will open from 5 – 8 pm on March 2nd and include two very special performances by Bonnie Tchien Hwen-Yin, with ON/gallery (Bejing China). The performances will take place at 6pm and 7 pm during the opening.

Signed MF Husain Serigraphs from the Herwitz Collection

M. F. Husain is the most recognised figure of modern and contemporary Indian art; he joined the Progressives Artists Group in 1948. A self-taught artist, Husain moved to Mumbai at an early age and began his artistic career by painting the billboards for cinemas.

His first exhibition took place in 1947 at the annual exhibition of the Bombay Art Society.  Between 1948 – 1950, Husain’s work caught the public eye in a series of exhibitions across India  with his first foray into China in 1951. The following year he had his first solo exhibition in Zurich and so began a series of exhibitions across Europe and the United States. In 1966, the Government of India awarded him the Padmashree.

Judgment on a Gray Beach
March 06, 2015 – March 15, 2015
Thurs – Sat at 8pm / Sun at 4pm
Ellen Stewart TheatreElia Schneider is known for hauntingly visual productions that transcend language with strong imagery and a dreamlike fresco of movement and design. In Judgement on a Gray Beach, themes of exile and totalitarianism are explored by a condemned man–he knows not for what– on a beach populated with ten antiheroes who fully comply with absurd laws and obey nonsensical orders. Will he escape or return for punishment?

New Zealand Performance Festival
March 11-28
This exciting program of performances by ground-breaking artists from Wellington, New Zealand, provides an alternative view of a country that occupies the American consciousness with myths of a clean-green nation and the Lord of the Rings film franchise. This special festival of innovative works shares new perspectives on the world, from the other side of the world, made in a reverse-time zone, made in the dream-factory, from a land that works while you sleep.
