NoHo-Bowery collectibles rise above the dog days of August

arts, some good reading, and more notable boutique retail…

SUMMER READING, July 18 – August 24, 2013.  The Hole Gallery is proud to present “Summer Reading”, a group exhibition and transformation of our Bowery galleries into a giant art book reading room. With works of painting, drawing, sculpture and photography, artists in this show explore the relationship of literature and print media to the realm of fine arts, or perhaps the slippages of meaning and experience between the act of reading and that of looking.

Reading and Real Estate

If you think you know what’s trending in New York City Housing and Neighborhoods, you might want to check the just-released Furman Center’s 2012 Survey.  There’s some pretty interesting data here on the City, generally and on Community District 2, specifically, from population and its composition to construction, average rental rates and purchase prices for co-ops and condo’s. Even base data on schools, performance, the drop in households with school-age children, the rise in Senior population as well as comparisons between our District and others around the City.

Curve comes to 57 Bond St.

At long last the groundfloor commercial space will be occupied by a very high end fashion retailer.  This will certainly compliment the other noteworthy fashion retailers coming to NoHo, including French clothier A.P.C. moving in two doors west at 51 Bond and the new Intermix location around the corner at 332 Bowery.  Coming soon Anthropologie and Patagonia !

American Apparel Purchases Oak

New York Magazine’s The Cut reports that the LA-based American Apparel (also located in NoHo on Broadway) has purchased the “gothic-leaning OAK ….which has become a go-to outpost for high-end, cutting-edge designers who make clothes that are black. But from both a business and creative standpoint, this seems like a really good partnership.”

OAK’s location is, of course, NoHo at 26 Bond St.  There is no indication that they will be leaving this location.  Whew!
