Last week a great cage was erected on Great Jones St. at #46, though its owner is the FDNY
We found the permits which are valid till September 12th. One is to construct the cage to hold a firetruck and the other is to place it on the street. There have been reports from Great Jones St. residents that the cage may be there longer, but none have been substantiated as yet.
While the permit seems to allow for some latitude as to the address, you will note the permit states the location as 42 Great Jones St – which would be the Fire Station and not 46 Great Jones where it is actually placed.
The cage is to house a fire truck from FDNY Engine 5 at 340 East 14th St. which is slated for extensive 
renovations. Also arriving will be the fire fighters from Engine 5 Company who will share quarters with the fire fighters of Engine 33, Ladder 9.
