This just in: Installation of Water Mains on Lafayette Street: Beginning on/about Monday, April 4, 2011 the New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC) will progress into a new phase of reconstruction activities for the Lafayette Water Main Installation Project, #MED- 595. Phase II will last approximately six to eight months. The construction will take place Monday – Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30pm and will disrupt some traffic patterns and restrict parking around Cooper Square. For more information go to www.nyc.gov/buildingnyc or call 311 and refer to project ID MED 595.
BTW – don’t forget the Public Theater will be announcing their construction plans for the reduction of a lane of traffic on Lafayette – which should be happening simultaneously with the Water Main project…both of which are immediately north of the MTA Reconstruction Project which has another two years before it is completed. ConEdison is replacing electric cables and water drainage systems throughout NoHo for an undetermined length of time. Immediately following the Water Main and Public Theater constructions, Astor Place and Cooper Square will be reconstructed for their new Plazas. And, throughout it all, Houston St. east of Bowery will be reconstructed.
Does the New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC) which is supposed to coordinate all of this have a master plan? No !
